The Lagniappe Bit from Stall High
Precision Meets Power: Finally, a Bit That Listens Back

For Riders Who Know the Struggle: You’ve felt it—riding a powerhouse horse with a touchy mouth that doesn’t respond to the gear in your hands. O-rings leave you without brakes. Long shanks start a fight you didn’t want. It’s exhausting, frustrating, and frankly... scary. That’s why The Lagniappe Bit exists.

What Is Lagniappe? “Lagniappe” (pronounced LAN-yap) is a French-Cajun word meaning a little bit extra. That’s exactly what this bit delivers—just enough extra to get through without going overboard. Designed by pro barrel racer Kendra Dickson, the Lagniappe gives you the control you need only when you need it—and the softness your horse deserves the rest of the time.

Why It Works: Unlike traditional bits where power comes from a long, leveraged shank, The Lagniappe Bit puts the control right where it belongs: in the mouthpiece. That means:

  Fewer braced turns
  Cleaner transitions
No head tossing, rooting, or diving away from pressure

It's like a great set of spurs—effective when used, but better when not overused.

How It Helps
Square mouthpiece = clear, sharp cues without harshness
Ultra-short shank = fast response, not overcorrection
Balanced pressure = calm brain, relaxed body

You’ll learn to ride with "butter-soft" hands, reducing confusion and soreness. It’s about training with communication and then trusting your training by removing pressure in the turn. The result? Turns that feel like flow—not a fight.

Who It’s For
Riders on strong horses who ignore their hands
Riders struggling with defiance, bracing, or disengaged turns
Riders ready to stop babysitting and start winning

Who It’s NOT For
Horses needing constant correction
Riders chasing headsets over control
Anyone afraid of real speed

A Better Ride—for Both of You: The Lagniappe is for riders who want sharper turns, faster response, and a true partnership with their horse. It’s not just a bit—it’s a breakthrough.

Get your bit together. Ride smarter, not harder.

Video Summary: "Lagniappe" is a French-Cajun word meaning "a little bit extra," the perfect name for Stall High's multi-purpose, high-performance bit. The beauty of The Lagniappe Bit is that the power is in the mouthpiece, not in the shank!

It lets riders send a clear message to a strong horse when they need more control, while retaining the "butter-soft" hands needed to prevent soreness and injury. You can think of The Lagniappe Bit as a good set of spurs: there when we need it, but best when not used with constant pressure.

Train your horse with clear communication, then trust your training by removing constant pressure during the turn. It may take a little practice learning just how much to lighten up on each horse, but "less is best," and we promise: your horse will thank you for it!

Video Transcript: It’s so frustrating when you know your horse has the talent to win, but you just can’t seem to get on the same page together. Compound that with the pressure we put on ourselves because we want to make our friends, our family, and our horse trainers happy. Eventually, it all adds up and makes us want to walk away from the sport we love most.

I’m Kendra Dickson and I’ve been in your boots many times, which is why I’m here today—to simplify your life and help you get your bit together. Riding a powerful horse with a touchy mouth is scary. It seems like the slightest move of our hands can trigger defiance.

For those horses, a long shank port is too much.
An O-ring, not enough.
Which is why I came up with the lagniappe bit.

It’s a Cajun French word that means “a little bit extra” and that’s the perfect name for this multi-purpose little bit. The beauty of the lagniappe is that the power is in the mouthpiece, not in a shank. It allows us to send a clear message to a strong horse when we need more control while still allowing us to ride with butter soft hands as often as possible.

You can think of the lagniappe like a good set of spurs, here to help communicate when we need it, best when not used with constant pressure. When a horse tosses their head, roots on the bit, braces going in, or bows away instead of completing a turn, their body language is communicating that they can’t handle the pressure and need more release.

The lagniappe helps us train and then trust. Train the horse with clear communication. Then trust your training by removing constant pressure during a turn. It may take a little practice learning just how much to lighten up for each horse, but less is best and I promise your horse will thank you for it.

Every lagniappe purchase helps support Stall High, the new social media alternative just for horse people. It’s available for free in the App Store and in Google Play for Android users.

I’m Kendra Dixon, reminding you to keep your bit together, ride smarter, not harder, and I’ll see you on Stall High.
